Is lockdownd going to be extended?

Is lockdownd going to be extended?

➤Harsh Goenka, chairman of the $3.8-billion RPG group, says he is ready for a longer lockdown and expects a mild recession in the economy
because of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
However, he is hopeful the government will help the industry, going beyond lower interest rates. In an interview with Surajeet Das Gupta,
Goenka talks about the impact of Covid-19 on businesses. Edited excerpts:
From the perspective of its impact on industry do you think the lockdown should continue beyond April 14?

➤I have a contrarian view from most of my industrialist friends.
I think the lockdown should continue for another 15 days and phased out after that step by step. In the first phase,
you might allow 30 per cent of the workforce to come in and see how it goes.
I think the government took a very sensible decision to go for a complete lockdown. It has to be a fine balancing act.

➥What do you think will be the impact on industry?
The first quarter will be a complete washout for our tyre business, though we will continue to bear fixed costs.
While margins might not get hit because of dropin oil prices, there will be a demand issue.
Then there will be bottlenecks in exports. We expect it to improve in the second quarter. One expectsthat the economy will go through a mild recession.

National lockdown to fight coronavirus: What it means - India News

Coronavirus: India needs 49-day lockdown, not 21, say Cambridge researchers

➤Coronavirus lockdown: The first scenario is the current 21-day lockdown. While it reduces the rate of infectives, it does not do much when it comes to reducing their number in order to prevent a resurgence.

The 21-day lockdown will not be enough to contain the spread of coronavirus in India, according to a study. Instead, the lockdown must be extended to 49 days, say researchers Rajesh Singh and R Adhikari based on their mathematical calculations.

➧➤R Adhikari and Rajesh Singh from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics in the University of Cambridge say their study is based on the interpretation that the lockdown on March 25, removed all social contacts and confined everyone to their homes. They also acknowledged that this appears to be an "optimistic" interpretation but that it allows them to assess the outcome.

Singh and Adhikari took into account four different control protocols. The first scenario is the current 21-day lockdown. While it reduces the rate of infectives, it does not do much when it comes to reducing their number in order to prevent a resurgence. In this scenario, they found that the probability of a resurgence after the lockdown is pretty high.

Moreover, Singh and Adhikari have also found that there is a drastic slowdown in the mortality rate from the 21-day period to a 49-day period. In their study, the researchers have said that in the first scenario, the mortality estimates stand at 2,727 in a period of 73 days, while it drops to 11 in scenario two, to eight in scenario three and six in scenario four.

#my opinion#
I support the 20 more days lockdown thoroughly,
I understand what some people might be going through but compared to millions dying it would be worth it,
as soon as they lift the lock down guess what’s going to happen?! So many people will be out on the street thinking it’s safe now ,
there are lots of dumb people who still think even now that it’s just a hype.... we will be like another Italy even worst ...don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Just another 20days sacrifice is not asking for too much when the whole country is at stack not to mention the world...specially with our
fragile health system and population.
What the government can do if lockdown is extended is to focus more on the poor distribute food etc.

✰is that helpful for you?
